INFORMATION:

Below : Spitfires would be assembled from parts supplied from all over England and then moved out onto the compass platform.

Engine started, pointed north and the compass set correctly, then taken across the road onto a concrete hard standing and then flown off for a test flight. After it passed it would then be collected by an ATA pilot and flown to an RAF MU (Maintenance Unit) where war items would be fitted (radios, guns etc.
